Possible Personalized email widget issues / misconfigurations.

As Nosto relies on on-site browsing behaviour to serve product recommendations in Personalized Email Widgets for a given user, some technical aspects must be taken into account when previewing and testing Nosto’s Personalized Email Widgets:

– Data invalidation and multi-browser sessions

As users implementing Nosto have browsing behavior that differs from regular customers such as testing their environment through multiple browsers or devices, information can sometimes be invalidated via Nosto services. For security reasons, if too many email addresses are tied to a given browser for example, data is no longer used as device could be a public device for example. When probability to mismatch information is too high, data about a given customer is invalidated.

– Unidentified users

As email addresses are used to identify users, Nosto Customer Information tagging must be placed across all page type when users are logged in. If you wish to reinforce the tagging and feed Nosto with more email addresses, Nosto Javascript API can be used. Learn more about it here.

– Wrong Email Variable

Depending on the email service provider used to send campaigns, a dedicated email variable should be used to identify users, as you can see below:

https://connect.nosto.com/image/v1/**ACCOUNT_ID**/**EMAIL_WIDGET_ID/1/desc?uid=**EMAIL_VARIABLE**

When an email is sent out and opened by a given user, it loads client-side the recipient’s email address in plain HTML language as such:

https://connect.nosto.com/image/v1/**ACCOUNT_ID**/**EMAIL_WIDGET_ID/1/desc?uid=email@address.com

You need to make sure the correct variable is in place as part of the snippet when you insert it into your campaign’s template.

When you create a Personalized email widget via the Nosto Admin Panel wizard, all email variables are automatically set as part of the email widget snippet. If for any reason, the email variable in use in your email service provider is a custom variable or if your email service provider is not listed in the Nosto wizard, please contact support@nosto.com.

– Visit expiry

When a user opens an email including a Nosto Personalized Email Widget, product recommendations are served for the first time and cached for a temporary period from 30 minutes to 1 hour. Note that some email clients apply specific rules for image caching, which may affect Nosto’s product recommendations as well.

– Cache configuration

When a user opens an email including a Nosto Personalized Email Widget, product recommendations are served for the first time and cached for a temporary period for around 30 minutes to 1 hour. On an additional note, email clients apply specific rules for image caching, which may affect Nosto’s product recommendations as well.
