With Nosto's facet manager you can efficiently control and manage how you provide facets to your shoppers.

You can find more basic information about facets in general and how to set them up initially in this FAQ article.

The facet manager is accessible in the top level menu in your search module.

Order Facet Groups

You can pin facets to make sure they are always shown on top. Use the drag&drop handle to change the position of pinned facet groups.

Merge Facet Values

You can now merge different values of a specific facet group into a unified display value. This can help you to sanitise your product data for optimised facets in your shop. Examples:

  • “ruby”, “burgund“, “magenta“, "red" → “red“

  • "16GB", "16 Gigabyte", "16 GB" → "16 GB"

Facet value merges will be applied instantly and do not need a separate re-index.

You can also choose to show the original values in addition to the merged value. A good example to do this would be:

  • "cotton", "wool" → "organic materials"

In this case you would have all three values available in your shop after the merge.

Order Facet Values

In the same preview, you can also manually pin facet values to top and order all of your facet values to fully control how values are shown in your shop. As soon as you have pinned a value, a drag&drop handle appears that allows you to move the items to the desired position. You can also hide certain facet values in this preview.

Clicking on the edit icon next to each facet value, opens a modal that allows you to edit the display name of the facet and add a visual:

Edit Display Names

You can edit the display names of facet values easily directly in the Admin UI.

Example:

  • "bake_ware" → "bakeware"

Please note that you can not rename values that have already been transformed through a merge. You can choose a display name during the "merge" action.

Visual Elements

You can now simply add visual elements (such as color swatches, patterns or imagery) to facet values for a better representation of the facets in your shop. This can be done directly in the Admin UI by specifying a color or adding a thumbnail URL.

To request the visual from the Search API, request the visual object from SearchFacetTerm in the GraphQL request and modify the facet frontend to show the thumbnail URL as image, or the color code as color tile.

AI Facets Suggestions

Nosto AI analyses your product data that is being used to display facets and suggests improvements on a weekly base. The suggestions are aiming to optimise the facet navigation for your shoppers and help them find the best products on their customer journey. Suggestions may include facet value mergers or correcting typos and misspells of facet names.

You can find all the currently available AI suggestions sorted by facet group in the dedicated tab - from there, you can easily review and apply the suggestions.

New AI-powered suggestions will be created weekly each night between Monday and Tuesday.

Facet Rules

The new facet manager does also allow you to create individual facet configurations for certain categories or search queries.

When clicking on the respective tab, you can see an overview of all rules that you have created for your account.

If you want to create a new rule, click on “Create new rule“. First you need to choose a name for the rule to make it unique and decide via the toggle if you want to enable the rule or keep it disabled.

Next, choose the target (specific category or query) for your actions.

Once you have chosen your target, you can see the list of facet groups associated with the target. Within the preview, you can perform two actions: Manually ordering the facet groups and hiding facet groups. In the following example, we have chosen to pin 4 facet groups for the category page “shoes“ and hide all other groups.

When you have finished your configuration, just click save and the changes will get applied right away.
