Nosto’s on-site campaigns consist of two modules: Recommendation Templates and Recommendation Slots. In this article we focus on templates and the web-design.

Go to Menu Recommendation Templates. Templates are design templates featuring Html, .Css and possibly Javascript that ultimately define how the recommendations will appear on a site. Templates don’t include any content, but are simply web-design attached to actual recommendations, which is done individually for each recommendation slot under slot settings.

New Nosto accounts feature default templates which are editable and also work as great examples in case you want to customise your own.

Creating New Templates

Templates are editable, but a new template is created by clicking Create a new Recommendation Template.

The menu and tool is pretty self-explanatory. Insert custom web-design code into Template Html tab, which can include Html, .css and javascript. Data stored by Nosto is output and used in the template by applying template variables, which will then be populated in the recommendation. Variable list is found below the edit template text-area. Once design is ready, give a descriptive and unique name for the template and click save.

Editing Existing Templates

Clicking Copy as New clones a template including possible variables in default templates. Clicking Recommendation template name opens up existing template in edit mode. In edit-mode, default templates delivered by Nosto feature editor tools allowing quick and easy editing of key aspects of web-design while template Html tab features design-code.

Under template Html and Preview and Save-buttons is the variable listing for available data types. Clicking preview will open up the design template in a preview mode in a browser so that you can review changes made to the template.
