This is a process you can use to mark user-generated content (UGC) as approved in Nosto when rights are managed outside Nosto or if social networks prevent automated recognition of the approval comment.

While Rights via Response and Rights via Registration remain the recommended workflows since they handle rights in an automated way directly with the content creators, Manual Rights Approval ensures you can handle edge cases effortlessly.

Getting Started with Manual Rights Approval

There are three main flows you can use to manually right-approve content.

Single piece of UGC approval:

Option 1:

  • Go to UGC Monitoring > Curation > Content

  • Locate the piece of UGC you want to approve manually

  • Click the button

  • Select Manual Rights Management

  • Check the box “Yes, I have rights

  • Enter a Comment that explains why you are manually approving the rights

  • Optionally attach a proof of rights

  • Click Approve & Add to Asset Manager

Option 2:

  • Go to UGC Monitoring > Curation > Content

  • Locate the piece of UGC you want to approve manually

  • Click the button

  • Select Rights via Response

  • Select Already got the rights

  • Then follow the same steps above

Batch UGC approval:

In cases you want to manually approve multiple pieces of UGC they can do that by:

  • Go to UGC Monitoring > Curation > Content

  • Select multiple Tiles

  • In the Batch Action menu, click Request Rights

  • Select the via Manual Approval option

  • Then follow the same steps above

Once the tiles have been approved (via any of the options above), the tile will be marked as Rights Approved, and you will see an icon with a hand that represents it was a manual action. When possible, this action will also download the asset to the Asset Manager.

Revoke Manual Rights

In case of a mistake or you have a reason to revoke the rights that were manually approved, they can do so by going:

  • To UGC Monitoring > Curation > Content

  • Click on the Rights Approved label on the Tile you want to revoke the rights

  • Click on Revoke Rights

  • This will put the Tile in a “No Rights Requested” state.

Note that the Revoke Rights option is only available for manually approved Tiles.

Review Rights Log

Like all the other Rights Management actions, the manual rights approval and revoke of rights are logged as events in the Rights Log for compliance purposes.

You can find the Rights Log by going to:

  • UGC Tools > Rights Log

  • The log includes the date, Nosto user, comment, and attachment
