Why is this changing?

Meta is updating its Graph API, which impacts how Instagram content is managed within 3rd party tools. To remain compliant and ensure uninterrupted service, we are making updates to how content moderation works for Instagram content.

These changes take effect on October 1st, 2025.

What’s changing?

1. Rights Approval Required

  • From October 1st only Instagram content that is rights-approved/owned can be published or used in any Nosto touchpoints (e.g. Onsite Widgets, Email, Screens, etc.) or accessed via API.

  • Content that is not rights-approved will not be available to publish.

2. 90-day rights management window

  • Any Content aggregated on or after September 1st, 2025: has a 90-day rights approval window. After 90 days, any non-approved tile is automatically removed. This applies to any new content aggregated in the future.

3. Automatic Removal from Nosto

  • Content aggregated before September 1st, 2025: must be rights-approved or marked as published by October 1st, or it will be removed from Nosto.

How to Manage Rights

You can manage rights in multiple ways:

  • Rights via Response – secure approval directly from users.

  • Rights via Registration – collect rights through registration forms.

  • Manual Rights Approval – approve content directly in the Admin Portal.

  • Automation Rules – set up automatic approvals for content you might be managing the rights outside Nosto (available starting in October).

Recovering Tiles

If content is removed because rights weren’t secured in time, you can re-add individual tiles using the Nosto Chrome Extension for Instagram.

What You Need to Do

  • Before October 1st:

    • Review any Instagram content aggregated before September 1st, 2025.

    • Ensure rights are approved using Rights via Response, Rights via Registration, or Manual Rights Approval or at least mark those tiles as Published.

  • Ongoing (after October 1st):

    • For new content, secure rights approval within the 90-day window.

FAQ

What happens if I don’t act by October 1st?
Any Instagram content aggregated before September 1st that is not rights-approved will be automatically removed, and published but unapproved tiles will be unpublished.

What if I usually don’t request rights in Nosto?
If you’ve been publishing tiles without marking them as rights-approved in Nosto, you’ll need to update your process going forward. To ensure your business can use the content, we have made available the following manual workflows:

  • Use Manual Rights Management to approve each piece of content individually, or

  • Set up Automation Rules to automatically mark approved content.

You can also use Rights via Response or Rights via Registration if you would prefer to start requesting the rights to users directly via Instagram.

Will I lose access to content added after September 1st?
No, but you must secure rights approval within 90 days. Otherwise, those tiles will be removed.

Can I still recover content that was removed?

Yes. You can manually re-add content using the Nosto Chrome Extension. However, this only allows you to add individual tiles one at a time. Bulk recovery is not supported.

Where do I find the rights management tools?
All methods (Rights via Response, Rights via Registration, Manual Rights Approval, Automation Rules) are available in the Nosto Admin Portal.
