You can use Automation Rules to streamline content moderation by automatically approving content that you already have rights to use outside of Nosto. This is especially useful for brands managing usage rights through contracts, social agreements, or external tools.
Follow the steps below to create an automation rule that approves eligible content automatically.
Step 1: Navigate to Automation Rules
Go to Tools > Automation Rules in the main navigation menu.
Step 2: Create a New Rule
Click on Create New Rule from the Manage Automation Rules page.
Step 3: Choose Rule Type
In the Automation Rule modal that appears, select the rule type.
For this use case, choose Tiles.
Step 4: Name Your Rule
Enter a descriptive Rule Name. This name will help you identify and manage your rule from the Automation Rules dashboard.
Step 5: Define the Trigger Scope
Set the Scope of the trigger. You can choose whether ALL or ANY of the defined conditions need to be met for the rule to execute.
Step 6: Set Conditions or Groups
Now create a Condition or a Group (a set of conditions with its own scope). You can define these using either:
The Criteria Builder (a visual interface), or
The Query Editor (for advanced users).
Use criteria that reflect the content you have rights to. For example, you might base this on tags, sources, authors, or metadata you use to track rights-managed content.
Step 7: Define the Action
Set the action that should happen when the conditions are met.
In the Action section, choose Right Status as the field.
Then set it to Approved.
This ensures that any content matching your conditions will automatically be marked as approved.
Step 8: Save and Activate the Rule
Click Save to activate the rule.
It will now automatically evaluate newly aggregated Tiles and approve those that match your defined criteria.
Automation Rules will not be applied to Tiles that already exist in Nosto before you created this rule.
How to Identify Tiles Approved via Automation Rules
You can easily recognize Tiles that have been automatically rights-approved through Automation Rules in several places across the platform:
1. Curation View
In the Curation interface, Tiles approved via Automation Rules will display a hand icon, indicating they have been rights-approved.
Note: This icon is also used for Tiles manually approved by users in the Admin Portal, so it’s not exclusive to automation.
2. Rights Approved Tooltip
When you hover over the Rights Approved label on a Tile, a tooltip will appear showing that the approval was done via Automation Rules.
3. Rights Log
In the Rights Log, the approval method will be clearly listed as Approved via Automation Rules, providing transparency into how the rights status was set.
