Overview
Shopify Combined Listings let you sell several products as one listing, for example one product per color shown on a single page. Shopify creates a Parent product for the listing, but the Parent itself can't be bought and holds no own stock. The products inside it, the Children, carry the real prices and inventory. (Combined Listings are available on Shopify Plus.)
Out of the box, Nosto indexes both, the Parents and the Children as standalone products in Nosto. With Shopify Combined Listings turned on, Nosto reads that relationship from Shopify, stores it on your products as Custom Fields, and gives the Parent a price and availability. You decide per experience whether to show Parents, Children or both.
Turning On Shopify Combined Listings
From your Nosto dashboard, find the Shopify card and click on Shopify Settings.
Find Shopify Combined Listings → toggle on → Save
Nosto will start to sync the Combined Listing relationship from Shopify, for the listings you already have. For every change from then on this will happen automatically whenever a Combined Listings product changes..
Nosto only reads your listings; it never creates or changes them in Shopify. The injected Custom Fields also only exist in Nosto, and will not be sent to Shopify.
What You Get
Every product in a Combined Listing gets the following Custom Fields:
shopifyCombinedListingRole, set to PARENT or CHILDshopifyCombinedListingParentIdset on the ChildrenshopifyCombinedListingChildIdsset on the ParentsshopifyCombinedListingRepresentativeChildIdto identify the Child the Parent takes its price and availability from
You can see these fields on any product in your product catalogue in Product Intelligence, that is part of a Combined Listing in your Shopify account.
Things to keep in mind
Parents always show the price and availability of its cheapest in-stock Child, and updates whenever any Child changes.
The Child-Products carry their own prices, and can be utilized as indipendend procucts as well.
In Shopify the Parent does not inherit tags or collections from its Children. If you want to utilize the Parents, make sure they have all the required data fields set in Shopify, so they are assigned to the right collections, and carry the fields you use for filtering and other configurations in Nosto.
Utilising Combined Listings
Enabling Nosto’s Combined Listings feature does not change your on-site behaviour automatically, but provides you with the tools to utilize your listings however you see fit, using our Variant Grouping Functionality.
Alternatively, you can also filter out the Parents or the Children per campaign, merchandising rule or similar, do achieve even more flexibility.
Common setup examples:
Parents only, everywhere: use Variant Grouping and exclude
shopifyCombinedListingRole:CHILDin a global rule.Parents with Children as swatches in Recommendations: add a merchandising rule that excludes
shopifyCombinedListingRole:CHILD, and pull the Children into your template withshopifyCombinedListingChildIds.Parents in Collections, with one exception: in that one Collection, exclude
shopifyCombinedListingRole:PARENTto show the Children separately.
