Managing user-generated content (UGC) effectively is key to maintaining brand safety, ensuring compliance, and protecting your audience's experience. The Banned Users feature allows you to block unwanted content at the source — preventing posts from specific users or IP addresses from ever appearing in Nosto.
You can configure bans in two ways:
By Username – Works across any supported social network as well as direct uploader submissions.
By IP Address – Available exclusively for direct uploader submissions.

Why This Matters
Blocking users proactively helps you:
Protect brand reputation by avoiding unwanted, offensive, or non-compliant content.
Save moderation time by filtering out repeat offenders before content review.
Ensure audience trust by maintaining a high-quality and relevant UGC display.
Ban by Username
Best for: Removing unwanted contributors across any connected social network or direct uploader content.
Steps:
Go to UGC Settings
Select Banned Users.
Click Add Banned User.
In Type, select Username.
Enter the username you want to ban.
Select the Network (e.g., Instagram, Facebook, Direct Uploader, etc.).
Choose whether the ban should apply as a Full Match or a Partial Match:
Full Match: Blocks only that exact username.
Partial Match: Blocks any username containing the entered text.
Ban by IP Address
Best for: Stopping direct uploader spam or repeated unwanted submissions from the same source.
Note: IP bans are only available for Direct Uploader content.
Steps:
Go to UGC > Settings
Select Banned Users
Click Add Banned User
In Type, select IP.
Enter the IP address you want to ban.
Choose whether the ban should apply as a Full Match or a Partial Match:
Full Match: Blocks only that exact IP address.
Partial Match: Blocks any IP address containing the entered string.
Please note that new banned users or changes to existing configuration can take up to 1 hour to apply.
FAQ
Q: Will users know they’ve been IP banned?
A: No. The user will still be able to submit the Direct Uploader form, but their content will be automatically discarded by Nosto without being visible to moderators.
Tip: Once added, banned users will be prevented from contributing content to your UGC feed according to the selected criteria. You can edit or remove bans anytime in the Banned Users section.
